Trademark attorney in Albania and Kosovo: a licensed representative for your mark

A trademark is filed at the office by a trademark attorney – in Albania and Kosovo, a licensed industrial-property representative acting under your authorisation. On trademark.al every application goes through such a representative, both for the General Directorate of Industrial Property (DPPI) in Albania and for the Kosovo Industrial Property Agency (KIPA). Here is what they do, how you choose one and how you work together.

What a licensed representative does

The representative files the mark at the office, follows the deadlines and procedures and keeps you informed until the decision. They act under the authorisation (power of attorney) you give and are responsible for their professional acts before the office. TMA runs the platform, the prices and the payments, and follows the quality of the service.

The representative also handles the services after the application – renewal, opposition, transfer, data change and more – when you request them under Services.

Who files your mark

At the first step of the application form you choose the country. If you have your own representative for that country, they are shown locked and they file the mark. Otherwise you choose a public representative or TMA's representative; without a choice, TMA's default representative for that country takes the work. After payment, the representative files the mark within 2 calendar days.

How to choose your representative

The public list of representatives shows them by country – Albania or Kosovo. Only representatives whom TMA has published and whose licence a TMA administrator has verified appear in it.

  1. Open Profile → My representative.
  2. Pick a public representative with a verified licence, write a message and send the request.
  3. The appointment takes effect when the representative accepts; you are notified either way.

You have one representative of your own per country. It can be the same person for both, if they are authorised for both countries, or two different representatives.

How to change your representative

Appointment and release happen by consent. To change, first ask for the release of your current representative: the release takes effect when they accept it – or TMA, if they do not answer. The representative may also end the relationship; you are notified.

Paid marks still in progress stay with the representative who was paid for them until they are done. Unpaid marks, marks without a representative and finished ones – e.g. for renewals – move to the new representative, in the country where they work, together with their open deadlines.

Power of attorney and communication

After payment you receive the power of attorney by e-mail, in the name of the representative who files the mark. You sign it – as an individual, before a notary – and send it within 30 days: for DPPI the original by post, for KIPA a scan is enough. On each mark's page you have the conversation with your representative, with attachments; every message reaches the other side with a notification and an e-mail.

Keep all communication and payments within the platform. Do not pay the representative directly and do not accept arrangements outside the platform: TMA reads the marks' conversations to prevent abuse.

For licensed representatives

Are you a licensed representative who wants to work through TMA? Representative accounts are activated only by TMA: create an account and write to us from Support. Once activated, upload your licence as a PDF on your profile; a TMA administrator verifies it by hand. Without a verified licence you cannot take clients and your profile does not appear in the public list. Representatives have their own dashboard for clients, deadlines and procedures, and can invite clients by e-mail.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need a licensed representative?

At TMA every application is filed at the office by a licensed industrial-property representative acting under the authorisation you give. They file the mark, follow the deadlines and procedures and keep you informed until the decision.

How do I find licensed representatives?

In the public list, by country – Albania or Kosovo. Only representatives whom TMA has published and whose licence has been verified appear in it.

A representative invited me by e-mail. What do I do?

You find the invitation under Profile → My representative: accept it or decline it. If you have no account, sign up with the same e-mail and the invitation appears there. The representative becomes yours only when you accept.

Can I pay the representative directly?

No. Pay only within the platform, by card or by bank transfer. That way every payment has its proof and is protected by the platform's rules.

Does the representative guarantee the registration?

No. The office decides – DPPI or KIPA. Neither TMA nor the representatives can guarantee a registration.
